Top 10 Wedding Songs (you haven’t thought about yet)…

Barry White “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe”

From the intro spoken words, to the building strings and eventually the opening line “My darling I can’t get enough of your love babe” this is the US funk soul swooner at his very best. Classy and a party anthem with zero cringe factor it never fails to get the dance floor cranking… And to top it off, it’s all about not being able to live without love, perfect for that special day!

Michael Jackson “Rock With You”

From Michael’s “Off The Wall” album, this is one sexy song! Oozing pure class, funk and melody, MJ’s killer vocal delivery adds cream to the already tasty cake. Add to that Producer Quincy Jones superb strings and why wouldn’t you want to “rock” along to this jam?

Groovejet “Spiller (If This Ain’t Love)”

Originally starting out as an instrumental club hit in 2001, UK model and vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bexter turned it into a huge pop hit when her hooky vocal was added and re-released several months later. Now a sing along classic (which has not been played to death), it provides a party moment that will have every girl in the room shuffling their feet and miming the words.

Janet Jackson & Luther Vandross “The Best Things In Life Are Free”

Two of the very best teamed up on this early 90’s track with devastating effect, resulting in one of the biggest tracks of both Janet and Luther’s careers, which is no mean feat in itself! Again not a track that has been played to death, but one where everyone in the room knows the chorus… and the message of the “now that I’ve discovered what you mean to me” lyrics are spot on point for the vibe of the night.

Club Nouveau “Lean On Me”

From the second the opening notes hit this one is instantly recognisable, yet many will not have heard it for years (even though they will sing just about every lyric)… A great close of the night track, it will have everyone singing along… and with the lyrics centered around friends, helping each other, being there for each other and emphasising everyone needs somebody to lean on, it’s the perfect closing statement for your crew on that special night.

Avicii feat Etta James “Levels”

One of the newer anthems in this list, Avicii’s 2011 mega smash is simply too good not to mention. Once the chords hit, the dance floor goes to new heights and by the time the breakdown comes, the floor will be full… So you then get to watch all of your closest friends and family mime the words to each other, originally recorded by the legendary Etta James in 1962 (“Something’s Got a Hold on Me“)… “Ohh Oh sometimes… I get a good feeling”… What more can we say. Killer song, killer vocal sample with an awesome message that creates a killer vibe for the peak of the party!

“Feel So Close” Calvin Harris

Another of the “new school” anthems for your wedding party… One of Calvin’s many hits, this one is lyrically perfect for that special day. Let the love “surround you like a waterfall” and bring this one on to get the dance floor rolling post cake cutting.

Crazy P “You Got The Love”

There are a stack of versions of this classic… The Candi Staton original from 1986, or even Florence and The Machine’s cover from 2009 are both worthy of a play, but this sneaky little cover by Crazy P brings the funk and is a stupendous version. Still with the full uplifting and anthemic vocal lyrics (that fit the wedding vibe perfectly), this version brings a killer disco / funk groove, wha guitars and pure class. For the groovers who also love a sing-along.

Finally – Ce Ce Penniston

So many love and wedding songs are sung from the grooms point of view, but here’s the chance to flip the script and sing (or mime ha ha) to your man in front of everyone with shameless abandonment… an opening line like “Meeting Mr Right, The Man Of My Dreams” means you really can’t go wrong… A global party anthem that is embraced by everybody, this one is a superb vibe creator.

Be Without You (Moto Blanco Remix) – Mary J Blige

Now here’s a tune to really get the dance floor rocking… This house styled remix enthusiastically asks to “Let Me See You Put Your Hands Up” in it’s opening vocal phrases and from there US diva Mary J Blige delivers a killer soulfull vocal, convincingly making you believe she cannot be without you… Which is the perfect sentiment for the lucky couple. A hands in the air anthem which always delivers a cracking dance floor vibe.
